Putting on a good face: HostPapa buys into cheeky new ad service
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 12 April 2012
On Friday April 13, HostPapa Green Web Hosting will be getting seriously up in some faces.
Or at least on some faces.
HostPapa has proudly sponsored the faces of Ross Harper and Ed Moyse, the brains (and faces) behind http://www.BuyMyFace.co.uk. For one full day, Ross and Ed will cover their handsome mugs with the HostPapa logo. As Ross and Ed go about their daily activities, they’ll literally take HostPapa out on the street – and on the bus, in the shop, to the pub …
You’ll be able to follow them on HostPapa’s Facebook, Twitter, and G+ pages
At first glance, this may appear to fly in the face of HostPapa’s traditional ad campaigns. Not so, says Sylvain Patry, Senior Vice-President of Business Development for HostPapa Inc.
“We love to see innovative thinking and we’re pleased to help these two young men reach their goal,” says Patry. “Not only that, but it’s clever, creative advertising – bringing HostPapa face-to-face with potential customers and friends.”
After graduating from Cambridge, Ross and Ed found themselves facing the tough UK job market, weighed down with massive student debt. They turned their mastery of viral marketing into a one-year experiment: for 366 days, their faces are ad space, painted with the logo of the group or company that purchased it. The initiative started on Oct. 11, 2011.
This advertising service also attracted HostPapa – a green web hosting pioneer – for being an Earth-friendly promotion. No flyers, no posters, no high-production advertising. Just some ingenuity, a little grease paint, and good fun.

US Waste Conversion Market Will See Exponential Growth in Commercial Scale Projects

US Waste Conversion Market Will See Exponential Growth in Commercial Scale Projects
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) April 05, 2012
Waste conversion is becoming the only viable answer to the waste problem spreading over the US. Landfills face more stringent regulation of methane collection and incineration is hindered by increasingly tough regulations on emissions. As a result technologies such as gasification, anaerobic digestion, landfill gas and waste to biofuels, are the future of the waste-to-energy industry.
Despite these greatly encouraging forecasts, there are a number of challenges facing the Waste Conversion industry. Risk profiles of waste conversion technologies can be high, meaning project implementation is extremely hard. According to Chaz Millar, NSWMA, the “grossly misinformed” backlash of public opinion hinders the permitting phase of development. The end result is that very few waste conversion technologies reach full scale commercial viability.
Nonetheless a recent SWANA report suggests that developers are convinced demand for MSW conversion technologies will increase. “Waste-to-energy facilities are economically sound investments that provide multiple financial and environmental benefits to the communities that utilize them,” says the report, The Economic Development Benefits of Waste-to-Energy Facilities.
“I think for reasons both economic and environmental, municipalities would welcome an alternative other than landfill disposal” says Ed Hennessey, CEO of Clean Tech Biofuels, a St Louis-based company with a technology to produce cellulosic biomass feedstock. “But it’s going to have to be demonstrated at commercial scale to get municipalities to advance those alternatives,” warns Hennessey.
The US trend towards more sustainable practices, has brought other waste conversion technologies under the spotlight. Anerobic digestion seems to be leading the way through biogas production, according to Harvey Gershmann, President of Gershman Bricker & Bratton, a consulting firm with over 35 years experience in solid waste management. A lengthy number of operating years behind a technology will no doubt help waste conversion technologies in their infancy, states Gershmann.
There is no doubt a real need to find clarity in this diverse landscape. North America could be about to take to MSW conversion in a big way. Renewable Waste Intelligence has provided another medium that directly addresses these challenges. The Waste Conversion Congress East Coast, in Philadelphia June 12 -13 2012, will bring together industry leaders including Gershman, Brickner & Bratton, the Energy Recovery Council, the US EPA, Cleveland Public Power, Enerkem, Waste Management Inc, to discuss these issues.
The conference focuses on delivering successful, profitable waste conversion projects and includes;
Comparison of new and proven technologies to select the right technology for feedstock type
Practical information on how to structure financing
Understand legislative, regulatory and permitting requirements to produce an environmentally and commercially viable project
Maximise value of your feedstock
Emily McMahon of Renewable Waste Intelligence said; “There is a very real need for this meeting as the industry strives to deliver viable, scalable, commercial waste conversion technology that will secure long term profitability for MSW feedstock”.

Arizona’s Leading Solar Electric System Installer, American Solar, Highlights how Solar Saves Sun City Grand Resident Over $ 1,200 a Year
(PRWEB) April 04, 2012
Arizona solar electric system installer, American Solar, announces its new case study highlighting how a solar electric system saves a Sun City Grand resident over $ 1,200 annually. This document is based on the actual experiences of an American Solar customer.
The guide contains information on the customer’s background and the contractor selection process. It also highlights the installation of the system and its subsequent performance. Actual figures are used to demonstrate system production and realized cost savings.
The focus of this case study is American Solar’s customer Charles Woodford. Familiar with the benefits of solar energy, Woodford had already made the decision to explore a solar electric system for his home. His decision came down to which solar contractor and system to use.
“I asked the American Solar rep some really tough questions,” said Mr. Woodford. “And I was really impressed when he had the right answers. He was extremely knowledgeable and sincere. I was so comfortable with the expertise, professionalism and level of service, I selected American Solar as my solar contractor without evaluating any additional companies.”
Based on his positive experience, Mr. Woodford has become a proponent for installing solar electricity and selecting American Solar as a contractor. Woodford provides input based on his experience to neighbors interested in solar energy.
“Investing in a solar electric system makes sense from a monetary and environmental standpoint” said Sean Seitz, president of American Solar. “It’s one of the best ways to save money on electricity costs each and every month.
“Not only do homeowners like Mr. Woodford save on utility bills, but their initial investment in a solar electric system is significantly reduced by incentives, rebates and tax credits,” continued Seitz. “Plus, solar power protects homeowners from future utility rate increases.”
Interested parties can download the new case study at AmericanPV.com, or call 480-994-1440 for a copy.

Ambassador Energy’s Director of Solar Training Gives the Term “Girl Power” New Meaning

Ambassador Energy’s Director of Solar Training Gives the Term “Girl Power” New Meaning
Murrieta, CA (PRWEB) March 31, 2012
When hired to lead the training team at Ambassador Energy, Kelso was already highly-qualified with one North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners [NABCEP] certificates. Now, after earning her second, she became one of only a handful of women with two.
Catherine Kelso cut her teeth in the solar industry in 2005, working in both California and Oregon. She first became a NABCEP Certified PV Installer in 2010, and this month earned the other highly-prized credential, NABCEP PV Technical Sales professional.
Kelso’s job at ISPQ-accredited Ambassador Energy is to lead the training program, crafting new solar PV courses, teaching the five-day course for the NABCEP Entry Level exam, teaching preparation classes for NABCEP exams, guest-speaking at colleges, training electrical, roofing and building contractors, and finding new ways to raise the bar on solar PV education and installation. She directs all of the course activity at Ambassador Energy College.
“The solar industry is full of people jumping in and trying to quickly learn it,” Kelso said. “But, it takes quite a bit of education to become an expert, especially in a business that is constantly evolving. I’m really happy to be one of a few women in the industry with my credentials, but I am even happier to be a part of driving quality to an industry which can easily fall prey to mass entry of unqualified installers.”
“For me,” she continued, “NABCEP is a big part of quality control. It’s the certificate that the US recognizes and one you can hold in your hand. But the real work is continuing to grow through constant education and experience. You can’t just get certified and forget about it. We have a responsibility to our clients to continue to hone our skills in the field and through educational programs like NABCEP, whose Continuing Education [CE] credits are mandatory. While those CE credits are always a pain, I am happy that the benchmark is high. The only way the solar industry will stay quality-driven is with programs like NABCEP.”
Also dual NABCEP-credentialed, Ambassador Energy CEO Steve Fulgham said, “We are very proud of Catherine. She is an integral part of our culture of training and education. She lives and breathes it. We laugh because she can almost never be caught without a calculator in her pocket.”
About Ambassador Energy
Ambassador Energy [AE] has a three-pronged business model, including Ambassador Energy College Solar Training, the Ambassador Energy Agency Program and Ambassador Energy, an EPC contractor. On staff are NABCEP Certified PV Installers, NABCEP Certified PV Technical Sales professionals [Fulgham/Kelso] and multiple NABCEP EL graduates. AE Agencies are nationwide. Ambassador Energy EPC installs PV throughout California.

TRA-Mage’s Solar Racking Withstands High Wind Zone Warnings on St. Patrick’s Day

TRA-Mage’s Solar Racking Withstands High Wind Zone Warnings on St. Patrick’s Day
American Fork, UT (PRWEB) March 21, 2012
March 17, 2012 brought the latest of five destructive winter storms to Northern Utah with winds clocked at 50 – 100 MPH, causing damage in many communities. While Wendell and Nola Child’s neighbors scramble to fix the damage, they are amazed that their new solar racking design kept their solar panels perfectly secure.
In late 2011, the Childs decided to put solar panels on their house in Fruit Heights, Utah. “When I was negotiating the deal with Progressive Power Solutions, I told them that we can have winds here of up to 100 MPH. So, however they installed the panels, I didn’t want them to come off,” recalls Wendell. Progressive Power Solutions selected the TRA-Mage solar mounting system which was engineered to withstand hurricane force winds.
Little did Wendell know how seriously his new solar panel system would be tested. Winds of 100 MPH created projectiles of shingles, tiles, and soffits, but the Childs’ solar panels didn’t move. Some schools closed, cars and homes were crushed by trees, and residents were injured. One day 50,000 people lost power and vehicles toppled over on nearby Interstate 15. That storm caused damage serious enough for the region to be deemed a Federal Disaster Area.
Neighbors watched out their windows, worrying if they would be in the path of the solar panels when they blew off. But Wendell and Nola’s solar racking, panels and roofing material never did blow off. Their flag pole ended up at an angle, and according to Wendell it looked like “the Leaning Tower of Pisa,” but the Childs’ home weathered each storm with only a small piece of aluminum soffit becoming dislodged.
“After one storm, Nola didn’t realize the power had gone off during the night,” Wendell remembers. “She got up, got dressed, got ready, and the lights worked fine. We had power like normal because of the back-up battery system and the solar panels on top that allowed us to have power. The neighbors had no power and they were wondering why we had lights on. They were on because the panels were still up there just like nothing happened!”
As neighbors reroof their damaged homes and winter morphs into spring, the Childs’ solar panels and roof need no repair. Wendell and Nola are grateful they had carefully researched integrators before settling on Progressive Power Solutions and the TRA-Mage system for their home. “I am so thrilled that it worked. We couldn’t be more pleased.”
TRA-Mage, Inc. manufactures solar racking for all types of solar panels, roof snow retention devices and flexible roof flashings. They provide free engineering of their roof systems for all projects, big and small.
Progressive Power Solutions (PPS) is a qualified licensed electrical contractor with years of experience installing and servicing renewable energy systems in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and California.

DuPont Applauds President Obama and U.S. Senators for their Support of Biobased Innovations
Apr0
DuPont Applauds President Obama and U.S. Senators for their Support of Biobased Innovations
WILMINGTON, Del. (PRWEB) March 12, 2012
DuPont today commended a recent presidential directive and new U.S. Senate proposed legislation that supports the growth of biobased products made from agricultural ingredients as good for the U.S. economy and the environment.
In February, President Barack Obama issued a memorandum calling for the expansion of the USDA BioPreferred Labeling Program and greater adoption of the program by federal agencies. The BioPreferred label certifies products are made with agricultural ingredients. The President has directed federal agencies to report on their purchases of BioPreferred certified products and asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to double the number of categories and products that are designated BioPreferred over the next 12 months. Additionally, the Grow It Here, Make It Here Bio-based Manufacturing Act introduced by U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), with co-sponsoring senators Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Tom Carper and Chris Coons (both D-Del.) would provide additional support for the BioPreferred program and the U.S. biobased manufacturing industry.
“The President’s action and the Grow It Here Make It Here bill demonstrate that the administration and policymakers understand the value of U.S. leadership on innovative biobased products in the United States,” said James C. Collins, president, DuPont Industrial Biosciences. “This action is a shot in the arm to America’s bioeconomy – helping support our overarching goals of boosting the U.S. agricultural sector and reducing our reliance on imported petroleum while offering a wealth of environmental and health benefits. This is U.S. innovation that can help create U.S. jobs for a growing global market for sustainable products.”
Research conducted last year by Genencor, now part of DuPont Industrial Biosciences, found that eight in 10 American consumers would definitely or likely purchase biobased household products if comparable on cost and effectiveness. In a survey of 800 of its business customers in 2011, DuPont found that nearly 90 percent said delivering products with environmental benefits is a long-term market opportunity.
Today, DuPont is applying its integrated science and deep knowledge of agriculture and applied materials to meet the sizeable and growing market demand for biobased products. Some of the existing products are certified with the USDA BioPreferred program while others are ingredients that can be used to help consumer goods manufacturers earn BioPreferred status. DuPont’s BioPreferred certified products include:
•DuPont™ Sorona® renewably sourced polymer: One of the first of 11 products to be certified with the USDA BioPreferred program. Sorona® is an advanced biobased material used in the manufacturing of textiles, apparel, home, office and automotive interiors and carpets.
•*Zemea® Propanediol: Certified 100 percent Biobased by the USDA. Zemea® also is certified as a natural ingredient, replacing petroleum-based glycols in over 800 personal care products. It functions as a natural humectant and solvent. It also is used as a natural solvent in home cleaning products.
•*Susterra® Propanediol: Certified 100 percent Biobased by USDA. This product is a specialty glycol that offers a non-petroleum alternative for products such as polyurethanes, heat transfer fluids and aviation de-icing fluids. Benefits include improved cold temperature flexibility in polyurethane systems, improved service life in heat transfer fluids and excellent aviation de-icing performance even in extreme cold conditions.
Additional DuPont biobased products include:
•DuPont™ Hytrel® RS Thermoplastic Polyester Elastomer: This renewably sourced polyol is used to manufacture hoses and tubing for automotive and industrial uses as well as for air bag doors and energy dampers.
•DuPont™ Zytel® RS Renewably Sourced Nylon Resin: This product is made from sebacic acid derived from castor oil, a non-food competing natural product. It is used in a wide range of manufactured goods.
An expanded list of biobased products from DuPont is available at renewable.dupont.com.
DuPont (NYSE: DD) has been bringing world-class science and engineering to the global marketplace in the form of innovative products, materials, and services since 1802. The company believes that by collaborating with customers, governments, NGOs, and thought leaders we can help find solutions to such global challenges as providing enough healthy food for people everywhere, decreasing dependence on fossil fuels, and protecting life and the environment. Spring Fashion 2012 Soiree at Skunkfunk San Francisco March 17

Spring Fashion 2012 Soiree at Skunkfunk San Francisco March 17
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 10, 2012
Skunkfunk fashion has always been what people call “fashion forward,” leading the way with perennial innovations in design, materials and fits. To celebrate the transition into spring this year, the eco-conscious clothier is hosting a party at the Mission District location of the San Francisco clothing store to unveil the Spring – Summer 2012 line on Saturday, March 17 from 5 to 9 pm.
The 302 Valencia Street boutique will host the main event, where models will show off some of the more glamorous pieces from the collection while mingling with guests. Skunkfunk invites everyone to come in and enjoy DJed music, adult beverages and a new art exhibit. Concurrently, the 1475 Haight Street store will host a smaller event.
Along with hot new additions to its men’s clothing line, this season’s women’s fashions by Skunkfunk include refreshed Skunkfunk classic designs, contemporary spins on ’60s-style silhouettes, skirts with playful variations on hemlines, and convertible dresses and skirts that are appropriate for work, then quickly convert to eye-catching cocktail attire.
“Urban fashion has evolved, and as the sophistication level of urban fashion rises, Skunkfunk is not just keeping up—we’re leading the way,” said Kyle Retzik, owner of Skunkfunk North America. “While our brand has always exemplified high-quality upscale urban fashion, the new Spring – Summer 2012 line clearly shows everything from material choices to design to craftsmanship has been elevated to a whole new level.”
Sean Santos, Skunkfunk’s Valencia Street Store Manager, says he is seeing that women are looking for a good investment in their wardrobes, including traditionally spring clothing that can be worn throughout the year. He also feels this year’s spring – summer line will appeal to a broader spectrum of women, as it includes choices ranging from edgy designs that make bold statements to more demure and sophisticated attire.
“There are options for both the fashion rebel, who wants to disassociate herself from mainstream fashion, and the woman who just wants to look beautiful in this collection,” said Santos. “I am really excited about a number of pieces, including our spring version of the ‘little black dress,’ which I simply call the ‘little white dress’; stylish faux leather jackets; and lightweight printed cardigans that are on the luxurious side of casual.”
Santos says that when women put on a dress, they feel dressed up—but most dresses can be fussy to put on and uncomfortable, which makes it nearly impossible for the woman to look her best.
“Women want to dress up, but they also want simplicity and comfort,” said Santos. “Skunkfunk is all of the above. Our dresses look great, feel great and go on easy like a pair of jeans.”
Skunkfunk offers urbanites eco-friendly fashion, including convertible clothing that can be instantly redesigned for different looks and occasions. The Spanish-born purveyor of fine clothing is applauded for its eco-friendly fabrics and ethical distribution practices that harmonize with the environment.
Skunkfunk works hard to bring positive change to three areas of the fashion industry: people, planet and prosperity. Textiles are carefully chosen based upon their impact to the environment, and include recycled polyester, organic cotton and Lyocell.
RECYCLED POLYESTER
Polyester comes from crude oil, a natural scarce resource with a low renewability ratio. Recycled polyester is processed in a less energy intensive way than creating virgin fibers, and it’s a perfect option to give a second life to post-industrial remains or post-consumer plastic waste.
ORGANIC COTTON
Organic Cotton is a natural fiber cultivated without the use of synthetic chemicals, such as pesticides or fertilizers, and is not genetically modified.
LYOCELL
Lyocell is a light and silky textile made from regenerated cellulosic fiber that comes from eucalyptus wood pulp. The biodegradable fiber is extracted under a sustainable closed-loop process that saves energy.
For more information about the debut of Skunkfunk’s spring – summer line, or for information about any of Skunkfunk’s products, call (415) 692-7678, go to http://www.shopskunkfunk.com, or visit one of the fashion leader’s three stores, located at 1475 Haight Street (Haight-Ashbury) and 302 Valencia Street (The Mission) in San Francisco or 181 Orchard Street (SoHo) in New York City.
About Skunkfunk
Skunkfunk is a Spanish-born New York and San Francisco clothing store that specializes in environmentally-friendly men’s, children’s and women’s clothing. Skunkfunk has stores in San Francisco, New York City, various European cities and online. Skunkfunk clothing is also sold in multi-brand stores throughout the United States.
