Exergy Tour Unveils Names of Host Cities for Inaugural Ladies Pro Cycling Race
Boise, Idaho (PRWEB) February 13, 2012
The Exergy Tour international ladies pro cycling race today revealed the selected host cities for the 2012 inaugural race, which will be held May 24 – 28. The five day stage race will begin and end in Boise, and will travel through alpine, high desert and sprint stages in the cities of Nampa, Kuna, Crouch/Garden Valley and Idaho City, covering an estimated 200-plus miles.
Between 10 and 15 of the top ladies pro cycling teams from around the world are expected to participate in the inaugural race, which was founded by Boise-based Exergy Development Group. The race will be one of the last races to provide international ranking points crucial to qualifying for the upcoming Olympic Games in London. It is sanctioned by USA Cycling and is the only ladies race in North America in 2012 with a 2.1 designation by the International Cycling Union (UCI).
“The Exergy Tour will showcase the power and excitement of women’s professional cycling and its growing global influence, while engaging our communities in teaching young girls the benefits gained through individual and team sports,” said James Carkulis, CEO of Exergy Development Group. “Our vision with the Exergy Tour is to communicate this global message and work with organizations who also are dedicated to advancing the self-confidence, self-esteem and overall well-being of girls and women through physical activity.”

Pasteurization Technology Group Secures $1 Million Venture Capital Investment

Pasteurization Technology Group Secures $ 1 Million Venture Capital Investment
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (PRWEB) February 07, 2012
Pasteurization Technology Group (PTG), innovator of the only wastewater disinfection process that creates renewable energy, has secured a $ 1 million investment from EIC Ventures, an early-stage venture capital investment fund. EIC Ventures is led by David Dubé, an experienced venture capital investor and CEO of Canada-based Concorde Group. Dubé is also a PTG board member and previous investor in the company. The financing will be used to expand PTG’s sales, marketing, R&D and field engineering operations, and to address the rapidly-building customer demand for its technology, which uniquely combines wastewater disinfection with renewable energy generation — solving two problems for the price of one.
“We are extremely pleased by the strong interest Pasteurization Technology Group has received from the investment community over the past year and we are delighted by EIC’s increased investment. EIC Ventures brings strong industry and international expertise that will help us continue our rapid growth,” said Greg Ryan, co-founder and CEO of Pasteurization Technology Group. “We are currently fielding numerous requests from businesses across a variety of industries that want to capture a precious resource—water—while generating renewable energy to offset their electricity costs. Our technology offers a sustainable solution that fits well with current market dynamics and a growing realization that water is a precious and valuable resource that cannot be wasted.”
“We are excited to be increasing our investment in Pasteurization Technology Group. As an experienced venture capital investor in the cleantech and energy industries, we see that thousands of wastewater-treatment plants in North America alone are looking for ways to reduce their costs and meet smart sustainability targets,” said David Dubé, managing director of EIC Ventures and CEO of Concorde Group. “PTG’s patented IP offers an extremely efficient solution to industrial customers in the food, beverage, agriculture, and oil and gas industries. In addition, the company’s capital-efficient business model, combined with its growing sales demand, makes PTG highly attractive to us as early-stage venture investors.”
PTG’s robust technology is a timely solution for municipal wastewater treatment facilities, many of which are aging rapidly and operating at, or even over, capacity. Additionally, wastewater treatment is facing increasingly stringent water-quality regulations and rising energy costs, driving demand for cost-effective and sustainable solutions that enable the re-use of water. PTG is also experiencing strong demand from industries that include food, beverage, and oil and gas.
PTG’s process delivers re-usable water and renewable energy
PTG is the first and only company in the world to combine wastewater disinfection with renewable-energy generation. PTG’s patented technology can use the digester gas (often referred to as biogas, a natural by-product of wastewater treatment) as fuel to drive a turbine that generates renewable electricity. The hot exhaust air from the turbine (energy that is typically wasted) is then passed through a series of heat exchangers that increase the temperature of the wastewater to a level that disinfects the wastewater stream. PTG’s technology is significantly more cost-effective and energy-efficient than other methods. And, unlike other wastewater disinfection approaches, PTG’s systems do not require toxic chemicals such as chlorine or costly electrical power and expensive lamps.
About Pasteurization Technology Group
Located in San Leandro, California, and founded in 2007, Pasteurization Technology Group is revolutionizing the disinfection of wastewater. PTG’s systems utilize its patented “two-for-one” technology that combines wastewater disinfection with the generation of renewable energy. PTG’s process is one of only a handful of technologies to pass the stringent standards of Title 22 in the state of California for the disinfection of water for reuse. By channeling the typically wasted exhaust heat from a turbine to disinfect wastewater, PTG’s process is the most energy-efficient and lowest-cost solution on the market. PTG won the 2011 BlueTech® Go-To-Market Strategy award and the Popular Science 2011 Best of What’s New award. Global Demand for Glass Packaging to Post Steady Growth, Backed by Increasing Use in Certain End-Use Markets, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

Global Demand for Glass Packaging to Post Steady Growth, Backed by Increasing Use in Certain End-Use Markets, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.
San Jose, California (PRWEB) February 02, 2012
Follow us on LinkedIn – Glass, as a packaging material, witnesses renewed focus following instances of the chemicals being associated with other alternative packaging that raised environmental, health, and purity concerns. The safety approval of the general use of glass containers by the US FDA further established the position of the material. The response of the food and beverages industry to the demand for safer packaging was evident by Coca-Cola’s move of switching back to glass bottles for packaging its soft drink, Coke, for mainstream retailers. The glass industry is undertaking vigorous research initiatives to develop lighter yet stronger glass containers, as well as novel recycling efforts to increase the collection of superior quality cullet to make glass containers. The industry is also expected to continue educating consumers regarding the health and environmental benefits generated from opting for glass containers.
Glass packaging is generally used for packing upscale natural sodas and juices. Glass stands out on the crowded store shelf for displaying Natural soda or New Age brands. Natural soda or other new brands packaged in glass are more attractive than in other packaging. Even a normal drink, when packed in glass, tends to be more attractive and rich. Super premium spirits have brought the glory of glass packaging back onto the center stage once again. Super premium beverage producers as well as other upscale beverage makers prefer glass packaging to other options and are switching back to glass from plastics. Majority of the beverage companies prefer glass packaging to other types of packaging, for marketing their products. Glass is used as a packaging material due to its ability to preserve taste, its esthetic qualities, its cleanliness, and its recyclability. Major types of glass containers used in packaging include bottles, jars (cosmetic and fruit), jugs, medicinal bottles, and vials.
The demand for healthy, premium beverages designed to improve memory, energy and health is booming with the growing health consciousness of consumers. Most of these premium consumer beverages contain sophisticated ingredients that need superior barrier protection from oxygen and light, which is one of the unique features of glass. The luxury foods and wine industry prefers glass to other materials. Alcoholic beverages are the major end-users of glass containers. Beverage companies use glass containers as marketing tools. The clarity and barrier properties of glass have made it to be most suitable for beverages. The introduction of lightweight glass bottles has diminished the fast rate of replacement of glass by PET. Beer is a major end-use segment for glass containers, with food, non-alcoholic beverages, and cosmetics and fragrances representing other major end-use markets.
The introduction of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag for glass containers is expected to boost the demand for glass products in the market. The new RFID tag, which portrays better resistance to chemicals and heat, could be integrated into the curved glass plates that include glass bottles and test tubes. Despite the concerted efforts by glass manufacturers, the glass industry still faces strong competition from other materials. Among all the major packaging materials, glass faces the maximum threat of substitution. PET bottles, metal cans and paperboard containers threaten to displace glass from many segments. Glass is facing stiff competition from plastic materials in the food packaging industry. Plastic containers have begun to penetrate into wide-mouth jars and bottles in the food sector.
The research report titled “Glass Packaging: A Global Outlook” announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a collection of statistical anecdotes, market briefs, and concise summaries of research findings. The report briefly discusses the overview and trends in the global glass packaging market, demand dynamics in various end-use sectors of glass packaging, threat from substitutes, and its demand outlook. The report also recapitulates recent noteworthy mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic developments. Regional markets briefly abstracted include the United States, Canada, France, Germany, UK, Japan, China and India, among others. Market discussions in the report are punctuated with fact-rich market data tables. Also included is an indexed, easy-to-refer, fact-finder directory listing the addresses, and contact details of companies worldwide.

Ambassador Energy College graduates NABCEP EL class with 100% pass rate.
Murrieta, CA (PRWEB) January 31, 2012
The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level test was proctored after Ambassador Energy’s weeklong Solar PV Design and Installation course, which is offered each month at Ambassador Energy College in Southern California and taught by NABCEP certified trainers.
“This was an interesting class,” said Kelly Smith, president of Ambassador Energy and Ambassador Energy College. “We feel so strongly about education and the NABCEP program, I decided to take our 32-hour Solar PV Design and Installation class and sit for the test. I figured I would see first-hand what all the hubbub was about. Everyone is always talking about how difficult it is. NABCEP tells us it is intentionally difficult. And now I can confirm that, indeed, it is difficult…but doable.”
“I had to get my head around the fact that I would have to sit still for five days, keep my head in the game and actually study after hours. It has been a long time since I was in a classroom environment as a student. During other Ambassador Energy training, I am often sitting in the teacher’s chair sharing sales, marketing and finance knowledge, so this was a kick in the pants for me. I was extremely challenged and delightfully humbled.”
In addition to Smith, other students included a group of teachers from an electrician college in Alberta, Canada, several Ambassador Energy employees and a handful of local building contractors. While many had in-depth electrical knowledge, all agreed that there were challenging aspects to the diversity of information presented. None was 100% certain of passing the exam, and all were thrilled with the news when it was recently revealed. The results arrived after the pencil and paper tests were securely submitted to NABCEP in New York for official grading. The process takes several weeks.
“The students are always on pins and needles waiting for the test scores,” said Catherine Kelso, one of only a handful of females certified as NABCEP PV Installers and the Director of Training for Ambassador Energy. “It’s funny how even the most confident of students will often leave with a little tinge of doubt about their score. It was a pleasure this time to announce to every single student that they had passed.”
About Ambassador Energy’s Solar PV Design and Installation
The course is designed to give students every opportunity to learn the basics of solar photovoltaic technology and pass the NABCEP Entry Level [EL] test. Students are encouraged to take the test immediately, as AE statistics have proven it increases their odds of passing.
The schedule for Ambassador Energy’s 32-hour course and NABCEP EL test includes five consecutive Fridays, and the traditional weeklong class. The classes and tests are offered at Ambassador Energy’s headquarters and training facility in Murrieta CA.
Ambassador Energy is one of as very few ISPQ accredited firms in the state of California qualified to teach and test for the NABCEP Entry Level [EL] certification. AE trainers are NABCEP certified in both PV Installation and PV Technical Sales. Class tuition includes test, textbook ($ 100 value) and the opportunity to build an actual solar photovoltaic system during class. The following subjects are addressed:
How PV Works
What Affects Solar Output
PV System Components
Electrical and Solar Terminology
Solar Site Evaluation
Shade Analysis
PV System Design
Solar Panel Racking
PV Permits and Contracts
Solar Installation Safety
OSHA Standards
Install a System in the Classroom
In addition to the NABCEP courses for Entry Level, PV Installer and PV Technical Sales, Ambassador Energy College continues to offer one-, two- and three-day training classes on related subjects, ranging from ‘Solar for Electricians’ to ‘Become a Solar Referral Agent’.”

Witt’s Flexible PVC Liner Solves Concrete Coating Problem

Witt’s Flexible PVC Liner Solves Concrete Coating Problem
Claremore, OK (PRWEB) January 24, 2012
As part of the renovation of a newly acquired facility, the energy company had to remove the remnants of the old acid containment area, perform soil remediation, and pour a new containment pit. For protection, they determined that cheaper, thin gauge coatings and materials could not give them the long term, reliable corrosion protection that a Witt Lining Systems product could. Due to the likelihood of future cracking in the concrete they preferred the fact that a custom fitted but un-bonded liner would not be affected by developing cracks. Alternative coatings also have the risk of failure due to coatings coming loose from the concrete as a result of groundwater from the back side – especially in the sumps, which are likely to have any spilled acid in them from leaky pumps, hoses, or valves.
For the containment areas the company contacted Melvin Stein of Stein Industries. Stein designed a dual containment area for each acid tank complete with a tank pad and collection sump in one end. For each area, the Witt liner was made in one complete piece including the sump area. This allowed the liner to be installed quickly, and without even waiting for the concrete to fully cure. “Flexible liners are the fastest and most effective way to line concrete areas” said Stein, an installer with over 20 years in the lining and coating industry. “As an installer, I was also able to assist the customer with details of how to secure their tanks, anchor pumps, electrical, and piping. Having an installer who was familiar with their other equipment and processes made it easy to cooperate on the liner installation too” added Stein.
As soon as the liner was installed, tanks, pumps and other equipment could immediately be put into place. Where the energy company would have been waiting 30-45 days for curing time with the concrete and an applied coating, the flexible PVC liner allowed them to use that time to complete the tank and equipment erection, and be ready to operate as soon as the concrete reached full cure.
The energy company is now running with a containment system that will provide years of reliable low maintenance service.
Witt Lining Systems is located in Claremore, OK. The company manufactures flexible PVC liners used for corrosion resistance in process tanks, storage tanks, vats, sumps, pits, and containment areas. PVC brands include Spectra Blue, Exceline and Koroseal PVC along with NSF-61 PVC and Teflon liners. For more information contact 1-800-323-3335 or visit http://www.wittliners.com

Renewable Choice Energy Publishes Research on Supply Chain Scorecards
Boulder , CO (PRWEB) January 19, 2012
Renewable Choice Energy today announced the release of its extensive research on supply chain sustainability scorecards. The paper includes an in-depth analysis of 16 scorecard programs including those from Walmart, Dell, Ford, Google, IBM, Johnson Controls, the Federal Government and more. The research shows that sustainability scorecards are a fast rising global trend across the supply chains of many industries. Large buyers are setting the pace for scorecards and smaller buyers are eagerly following suit. With new emphasis on measuring supply chain sustainability and risk, scorecards are becoming a key component of corporate social responsibility and proving to be a competitive differentiator.
Mark Newton, former Executive Director of Global Sustainability at Dell and now Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Timberland, explains, “From the highest levels of a corporation, organizations are beginning to think holistically and to engage suppliers to be innovative in their efforts,” Newton says. “Whether you are a large multi-national organization or a supplier to one, managing carbon emissions is another lever to reduce waste and drive efficiency.”
Many organizations have a stake in supply chain performance:
Government entities include agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and lawmakers at the local, state or federal level.
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operate independently from government and are not-for-profit businesses that usually have a social or environmental mission.
Trade associations are affiliations of businesses within an industry that usually attempt to collaborate and standardize processes and requirements.
Corporate shareholders and investors are commercial influencers who are interested in improving the return on their investment while simultaneously mitigating their risks and look at the supply chain as an opportunity to do that.
“Buyers and sustainability directors at even the largest companies in the world are happy to engage with suppliers on sustainability issues,” says Tom Holcomb, Chief Operating Officer of Renewable Choice Energy. “Many suppliers build stronger relationships with their customers simply by asking for help and guidance when responding to scorecard requests.”
Key findings include:
Many organizations incorporate the scorecard into their purchasing process and a supplier’s performance can count for as much as 10 to 15% of their overall rating.
The top motivators for supplier scorecard implementation include managing risk, industry leadership, and corporate influence.
The most common metrics measured by these companies are energy, carbon, and waste, followed by water, packaging, and social/community.
Sustainability scorecards are an integral part of doing business today. Pressure is coming from many directions – NGOs, trade associations, government, shareholders and investors.
By following a few best practices, suppliers can be sure they understand the sustainability expectations of their customers and succeed in scorecard compliance.
