A New Chapter begins for Le Cordon Bleu London School of Culinary Arts at Bloomsbury Square

Le Cordon Bleu London School Planning Design

Nyack, NY (PRWEB) January 06, 2012

After nearly 50 successful years at 114 Marylebone Lane, Le Cordon Bleu London is excited to announce its new International Flagship School of Culinary Arts and UK Headquarters located in the heart of London at 15 Bloomsbury Square, WC1.

Founded on a rich history of tradition, Le Cordon Bleu has been dedicated to sharing its wealth of knowledge and passion for the culinary arts for over 100 years. The school now moves fittingly to London’s oldest square, Bloomsbury Square, created by the pioneering Lord Southampton 336 years ago as the piazza to his mansion. Many 18th and 19th century houses still remain. The square has had numerous famous residents but is most closely associated with the literary and artistic ‘Bloomsbury Group’. Several members of the group lived in the area in the early decades of the 20th century, including biographer Lytton Strachey and novelist Virginia Woolf.

The building features state-of-the-art kitchen and classroom facilities offering students the latest and most innovative opportunities in culinary education.

With a focus on environmentally sustainability and green design, Le Cordon Bleu London’s culinary facility, will also include a green roof, sprawling five floors above London’s Bloomsbury Square.

The environmentally friendly project will encompass two successful features in green roof innovation; a sedum blanket, planted with wildflower and herbaceous species, together with rooftop herb garden.

This type of green roof, which includes a variety of plant species, will create better biodiversity than normally found on standard green roofs. The rooftop herb garden will not only generate an abundant supply of the freshest cooking ingredients, but will also provide students with an additional educational resource, allowing them to study plants and herbs in their natural state. Le Cordon Bleu chefs and students alike can look forward to a rooftop oasis of micro lettuces, tomatoes, and fresh herbs.

The green roof will result in the following benefits:

    Encouraging biodiversity in the area
Helping to mitigate the impact of heavy downpours of rain
    Increasing oxygen production
Creating a visually pleasing environmental feature

Approximately 30 m² (323 Sq Ft) of photovoltaic (PV) solar panels will also be positioned on the south west facing roof, contributing to the building’s energy supply and recognizing the importance of implementing renewable energy sources.

MASSIVE GROWTH PREDICTED FOR WEST LONDON RENEWABLE ENERGY MARKET BY 2020

The West London Renewable Energy Association (REA) has hailed the start made by the feed-in tariff scheme which allows private individuals to sell the electricity they generate through renewable sources back to their energy supplier.

According to the organisation’s technical director Stuart Pocock, the REA has observed a steady growth in the West London renewable energy market since the scheme started on April 1st 2010 and now even local authorities could get in on the act.

The news comes hot on the heels of a report by analysts at global finance giant HSBC, who have forecast the low carbon economy, which includes renewable energy, to treble to .2 trillion worldwide by 2020,  amid fears of global scarcity of resources and a more general acceptance of climate change.

Renewable energy currently holds the largest share of the low carbon market which also includes things like energy saving products and services like house insulation and electric cars.

Revenues from renewable energy were forecast to increase by 9.4% annually to a market size of 0 billion worldwide by the year 2020 in the HSBC report released in September 2010.

The future of growth in the West London renewable energy sector in the UK will be driven by tough commitments on emissions, efficiency and renewable energy by the countries of the European Union, with the USA lagging behind, according to the report.

The UK Government has recently changed its rules on renewable energy to potentially allow local authorities to sell any electricity they may generate from renewable sources.

Hampshire County Council is just one local authority which has expressed interest in introducing such a scheme.

In urban areas the trend of embracing renewable energy is also noticeable, with solar panels appearing on rooftops across West London.

Clinton Foakes who runs a west London-based renewable energy and building firm, which operates in largely upmarket areas like Kensington and Chelsea, said that he had noticed a large increase in customers asking about renewable energy options.

“We are specialists in  West London Renewable Energy  or  and it accounts for a large chunk of what we do in the low-carbon and renewable energy market.” He said.
