Obama Agrees: Wind Generators Make More Than Just Energy

Air Breeze Wind Turbine

(PRWEB) October 26, 2012

It is not just about manufacturing of wind generators. The generators require poles to mount them plus wires and controls for proper connectivity and installation. Being mechanical devices, they eventually require maintenance. Open the bonus door of economic opportunity? Absolutely, but those are some of the unseen sidelines of the Recovery Act that help small companies lift off the ground to grow. e Marine Systems is one such small company located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale that is now capturing the opportunities of putting these wind generators into operation and keeping them running.

e Marine Systems is a Southwest Wind Power master distributor and an authorized warranty repair facility. It has developed new products for supporting the installation of wind generators, which include control panels (hybrid solar and/or wind), innovative vibration absorbing mounting poles and complete installation kits. This has allowed the consumer to become easily empowered to use the wind generator by getting into their hands everything needed to get this energy creating product harvesting power from Mother Nature like a farmer does with grain.

Additional opportunities are created as e Marine Systems develops a new business segment in servicing and testing wind generators, such as the Air Breeze and Air-X models by Southwest Wind Power, for the massive 130,000+ units currently manufactured. With expanded use in remote homes, RVs and Marine applications (off grid), the need to convert this wind generated DC energy into usable AC requires a pure sine wave inverter, such as American made Magnum Power Inverters. This has driven an upswing in inverter sales too. Pure sine wave inverters also require support and service therefore creating another new demand, which e Marine Systems now supports.

Obama’s signing of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 is having an impact. Yes, it is slow but growing and the benefits will reach far into the future. e Marine Systems can attest to it.

About e Marine Systems

e Marine Systems provides solar and wind generators, mounting kits and has a large inventory of parts. They also service renewable energy system components. Through the products they supply, e Marine aims to promote renewable energy solutions among boat, RV and remote home owners. Visit http://www.emarineinc.com for more info.

Wind Power in China Industry Research Report – Now Available from IBISWorld

IBISWorld Market Research

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 14, 2012

Over the past five years, revenue has been growing 73.9% annually, says IBISWorld. As a clean and renewable energy source, wind power is playing an increasingly significant role in power generation, ranking fourth after thermal power, hydroelectric power and nuclear power. Revenue for the Wind Power industry in China is estimated at $ 10.2 billion in 2012. Wind power generation firms have been consistently increasing installed capacity over the period, and an oversupply of wind turbines is stimulating their further expansion. The national standard for on-grid wind turbines came into force in November 2011 to address the bottleneck. Even for those on-grids, however, large amounts of electric power are discarded due to the limited transmission capacity of the grid.

The top four wind power generators in China account for almost half of industry revenue in 2012. The concentration level of the industry dropped sharply after the Power Sector Reform in 2002, when the former monopoly, the National Electric Power Corporation, was split into five major state-owned power generation groups and two electric grid corporations. The five major power generation groups, China Guodian Corporation, China Datang Corporation, China Huaneng Group, Shenhua Group, and China Huadian Corporation, have access to generous government subsidies for new energy exploration and competition among them is intense.

With strong government support for alternative energy generation, the Wind Power industry in China will likely experience another five-year-period of expansion, says IBISWorld. However, growth will be limited by new government regulations requiring the approval of new wind power projects by the National Energy Bureau. In addition, projects in regions where over 20% of electricity generated by wind power is discarded due to limited transmission capacity will no longer be approved.

Instant Energy: New Wind, LLC. and Apperisity, Inc. Unveil ELPoD Giving Portable Power and Light on Demand that Operates Off the Grid and Without Fuel

Apperisity One, or the Emergency Light and Power on Demand (ELPoD) is a wind and solar hybrid system that provides power off the grid and without fuel. New Wind, LLC of Nashville, Tenn. provides the components while Apperisity, Inc. of Cody, Wyoming provides the engineering.

Cody, Wyoming (PRWEB) May 08, 2012

For Mario Navarrete, executive vice president of field operations for Apperisity, Inc., the tower in his parking lot is the culmination of his own love of engineering, and the desire to build a sustainable and a renewable energy solution that could be used “on demand.” Thus, Apperisity One was born and with the company’s partner, New Wind, LLC, a world-wide provider of small-wind vertical–axis wind turbines (VAWTs) and other renewable energy products out of Nashville, Tenn. The two companies have joined forces and technologies to create a completely mobile product.

“Our team has developed the right combination and components to make the Emergency Light and Power on Demand (ELPoD), a portable alternative energy power source,” Navarrete said. “The current prototype is made from a recycled chassis. The generator is a New Wind turbine and solar panel with a current output of 450 watts per hour of energy. The lighting system is a 60 watt LED that produces more than 5,000 lumens of brilliant white light. This mobile power plant can be used by any organization that has a power-on-demand need.”

The use of diesel, gasoline, oil or antifreeze is non-existent, Navarrete said, which makes this unit environmentally safe and easy to use and maintain. ”The simplicity of design makes this mobile wind and solar tower cost effective and an affordable alternative within the wind and solar power industry. Our goal is to develop and manufacture the product here in Cody, Wyoming, which will create new jobs and help to stimulate our local economy with a safe and renewable energy source that is eco-friendly and non-dependent upon fossil fuel products.”

Apperisity One is a hybrid solar and wind lighting solution that can be installed on any mobile light tower with a few simple modifications, instead of the standard inefficient and high-maintenance construction lights, Navarrete said. “The unit operates off a two-fold micro grid with a battery backup, so on those days when it is storming the wind turbine generates energy and on sunny days the solar panel kicks in to Emergency Light and Power on Demand (ELPoD) create energy. It is hooked up to a console that is programmed to turn the unit on when lighting is necessary.”

All of the sustainable energy components, he said, will be supplied through the partnership with New Wind, including the turbine, solar panel, and batteries.

“Apperisity One is an efficient and affordable solution for security lighting, highway maintenance, construction projects, emergency response needs in areas that are difficult to access, as well as fairs, festivals, and other temporary events. You just hook the unit to the back of any vehicle that is set up to tow and transport it to the required site for easy set-up and immediate use,” he said. “The unit can be erected and turned on in just a matter of minutes. It does not require a power grid for use and is extremely cost efficient to maintain. The mobile turbine is also cost efficient and affordable to use with no fuel costs or high maintenance fees to worry about. The Apperisity One is practically maintenance free.”

“When cost-effective energy is required, it will now be available to our customers in a sustainable fashion, anytime or anywhere the need arises,” Navarrete said.

“Sustainable energy is one of today’s main stream interests where the technology has reached a point where it is affordable and practical. Renewable energy, particularly small wind systems, has been very costly in the past. With our product, that cost has been greatly decreased making it an affordable option for those requiring sustainable energy needs now and in the future. Our motto is: ‘As long as there is wind and sun, we will have good ‘NEWS’ which is short for Natural Energy With Sustainability for our customers.”

It has taken several years, many prototypes, good old-fashioned ingenuity, and trial and error to get the Apperisity One where it is today, he said, adding prototypes were made out of recycled material. “We found the only turbine that would work was one of New Wind’s VAWTs,” he said. “After working on it, we now have it down to the production stage and are ready to take orders. We can also build them to customer specifications.”

Stuart Wiston, president of New Wind, LLC, said he was excited to be on the ground floor of Apperisity One. “It is true that necessity is the mother of invention. Mario saw a need and tackled it. We have watched the process and we are cheering him on. This is how the present and future energy needs will be fulfilled – by someone taking what they know and putting it to use. The fact our turbine was the right piece of the wind puzzle makes us all excited around here. We get his photos and videos of the progress – him in Wyoming and us here in Nashville – and watched it continually be improved upon to what it is now. We are so proud to be a part of the solution, and especially with someone as positive, creative, and clever as Mario.”

The Apperisity is continually evolving. Navarrete said he is working on making the system, “self-approving. We are putting it on a hydraulic pole with limit switches so the turbine will raise or be lowered to where conditions are perfect for maximum output without hurting the turbine.” He said the ability to self-lower during harsh weather is also a built-in safety feature.

TRA-Mage’s Solar Racking Withstands High Wind Zone Warnings on St. Patrick’s Day

Solar Racking in Fruit Heights, UT

American Fork, UT (PRWEB) March 21, 2012

March 17, 2012 brought the latest of five destructive winter storms to Northern Utah with winds clocked at 50 – 100 MPH, causing damage in many communities. While Wendell and Nola Child’s neighbors scramble to fix the damage, they are amazed that their new solar racking design kept their solar panels perfectly secure.

In late 2011, the Childs decided to put solar panels on their house in Fruit Heights, Utah. “When I was negotiating the deal with Progressive Power Solutions, I told them that we can have winds here of up to 100 MPH. So, however they installed the panels, I didn’t want them to come off,” recalls Wendell. Progressive Power Solutions selected the TRA-Mage solar mounting system which was engineered to withstand hurricane force winds.

Little did Wendell know how seriously his new solar panel system would be tested. Winds of 100 MPH created projectiles of shingles, tiles, and soffits, but the Childs’ solar panels didn’t move. Some schools closed, cars and homes were crushed by trees, and residents were injured. One day 50,000 people lost power and vehicles toppled over on nearby Interstate 15. That storm caused damage serious enough for the region to be deemed a Federal Disaster Area.

Neighbors watched out their windows, worrying if they would be in the path of the solar panels when they blew off. But Wendell and Nola’s solar racking, panels and roofing material never did blow off. Their flag pole ended up at an angle, and according to Wendell it looked like “the Leaning Tower of Pisa,” but the Childs’ home weathered each storm with only a small piece of aluminum soffit becoming dislodged.

“After one storm, Nola didn’t realize the power had gone off during the night,” Wendell remembers. “She got up, got dressed, got ready, and the lights worked fine. We had power like normal because of the back-up battery system and the solar panels on top that allowed us to have power. The neighbors had no power and they were wondering why we had lights on. They were on because the panels were still up there just like nothing happened!”

As neighbors reroof their damaged homes and winter morphs into spring, the Childs’ solar panels and roof need no repair. Wendell and Nola are grateful they had carefully researched integrators before settling on Progressive Power Solutions and the TRA-Mage system for their home. “I am so thrilled that it worked. We couldn’t be more pleased.”

TRA-Mage, Inc. manufactures solar racking for all types of solar panels, roof snow retention devices and flexible roof flashings. They provide free engineering of their roof systems for all projects, big and small.

Progressive Power Solutions (PPS) is a qualified licensed electrical contractor with years of experience installing and servicing renewable energy systems in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, and California.

EOLE-RES Joins Iberdrola-led Consortium to Bid for French Offshore Wind Projects

(PRWEB UK) 26 October 2011

As they prepare to make their bid for two offshore wind farming sites in France, Iberdrola, the parent company of ScottishPower, specialists in business electricity recently made the announcement they have welcomed EOLE-RES into their consortium to aid in making their bid. EOLE-RES hare renowned for their innovation in the design, development, construction and overall operation of multiple successful projects focusing on renewable energy. With this addition, the already strong line up of experienced organization bidding for these wind farms continues to build momentum.

From the onset, Iberdrola has already partnered with AREVA in effort to have them provide the wind turbines for this project. Overall, the goal of the French government to hit its target of reaching 6 GW by 2020 will be bolstered by 1.25 GW with AREVA’s turbines in place. In addition, the world’s leader in this sort of project management, engineering and construction throughout the energy industry, Technip, has also joined forces with these companies in August to secure the construction and engineering projects met both timelines and budgets.

Another benefit to Iberdrola bringing EOLE-RES in to this consortium is that they will also bring in their sister company RES Offshore. Although EOLE-RES is one of France’s leading wind energy developers, their sister company RES Offshore specializes in additional development, technology and engineering know-how. This additional and specific expertise will only continue to strengthen the partnership already in place with this consortium. Furthermore, RES Offshore has already proven their abilities by currently providing over 5000MW in development through the United States(US) and Europe and an additional 350MW to the United Kingdom(UK) alone.

In addition to the proven power already being provided, this consortium also has bids to potentially provide an additional 750MW to the Saint-Nazaire zone off the Atlantic Coast and another 500MW to the Saint-Brieuc zone in Northern Brittany. The French Government has plans to name their successful bidders for these projects in April 2012. This will be a short four months after bids are due to the French Government in January 2012.

Keith Anderson who is the Chief Executive of both ScottishPower Renewables as well as Iberdrola’s Glasgow-based Global Offshore Division stated, “EOLE-RES is a very strong addition to the consortium, with a wealth of experience in delivering onshore wind projects in France as well as working on offshore projects.”

Anderson continued by saying, “Together with AREVA and Technip, we have established a consortium with a wealth of experience in delivering successful renewable energy projects across Europe and are confident that we can submit a strong bid. All partners will work closely together on the bids and a project team has been established in France. The consortium aims to create significant industrial opportunities if it is successful in the tender process and will provide French industrial companies with additional opportunities to access the global offshore arena.”

CEO of EOLE-RES, Jean-Marc Armitano also added, “This partnership combines the valuable experience and unrivalled expertise of the two groups in terms of design and construction of both onshore and offshore wind farms. This consortium is undoubtedly one of the most solid and experienced, with a valuable technical, industrial and financial background that will allow the development of high-quality offshore projects.”

Although primarily in the UK, their pipeline of approximately 10000MW in offshore wind projects makes Iberdrola the largest wind energy company on the planet. When EOLE-RES is added into this consortium as one of France’s leading wind energy developers driven by their specialization they possess in the overall process of creating, building and operating wind energy facilities, it grows the strength of this consortium almost exponentially. France has already received over 400MW from this group that has designs on providing thousands more. With proven success over the past decade of already providing high-quality wind energy to the French, the aspect of continued success on a larger scale is definitely an exciting one.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds Installs Wind Turbine

RSPB install a Proven Energy 15kW wind turbine

(PRWeb UK) April 30, 2009

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), which recently came out to support wind power development in correctly sited locations, has installed a small scale wind turbine at its Rainham Marshes visitor centre in Purfleet, Essex.

RSPB Rainham Marshes Manager, Nick Bruce-White said “Powering Rainham Marshes with renewable energy not only shows our commitment to tackling climate change, it demonstrates the important role renewables can play in delivering our future energy needs. The RSPB is often most visual when objecting to wind turbine proposals. However, as demonstrated by a recent IEEP study commissioned by the RSPB, wind power does have a valuable role to play in contributing towards the UK’s renewable energy needs, and can do so without harming wildlife. The wind turbine at Rainham Marshes is an excellent example of this.”

Craig Jones, Head of Business Development for Proven Energy said, “We welcome the opportunity to work with all customers and partners to ensure proper siting of our wind turbines. The need to combat climate change is such that it is our duty to ensure that people get the most out of renewable technologies. This installation reaffirms Proven’s capability to work in partnership, collaboration and harmony with local communities and wildlife.”

Alex Murley, Small Systems Manager for the British Wind Energy Association said “Proven Energy form part of a growing UK small scale wind industry which leads the world in low carbon product design. It is gratifying to see the RSPB join the ranks of organisations recognising that in the windiest country in Europe, there are thousands of households and businesses able to generate their own clean, green energy from correctly sited wind energy technologies”.

James Hoare, Managing Director from Ardenham Energy installed the wind turbine. “We were delighted to have been awarded this high profile and important installation project by the RSPB, which confirms the support by the RSPB for responsibly located wind turbines as a method of clean electricity production that will help combat climate change”.

The Proven Energy 15kW wind turbine, together with existing solar technology, should provide enough energy to power the visitor centre, minimising the site’s carbon footprint. The wind turbine is sited on a 5 m/s site and has the potential to produce 21,000kWh per year reducing the RSPB’s CO2 emissions by 9,000kg per annum.

The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten the environment. The RSPB sees climate change as the biggest threat to global wildlife in the 21st century. The impact of global warming threatens many species with extinction and there is a need for renewable energy to tackle greenhouse gas emissions.

Garden City, NY (PRWEB) May 17, 2011

Adelphi University, a leader in the area of energy conservation and a green environment, is continuing its commitment to renewable energy by offsetting 100 percent of the electricity consumed at its Garden City campus with the purchase of 20,206,800 kilowatt hours (kWh) of renewable energy credits (RECs) generated by wind farms across America through Boulder, Colorado-based provider Renewable Choice Energy. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that this purchase helps avoid a similar amount of CO2 emissions as that produced by nearly 2,775 passenger vehicles annually or the electricity use of 1,761 average American homes.

“Adelphi University is proud of its efforts to green the campus and continue to set the standard for others to follow,” said Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott. “The investment in clean renewable energy to minimize the impact on the environment underscores the University’s commitment to conservation and sustainability practices. There is excitement among administrators, faculty, students, and staff to create a campus culture that values environmental responsibility.”

Renewable energy facilities generate renewable energy credits (RECs) when they produce electricity. Purchasing these credits is one of the widely accepted ways to address the environmental footprint of electricity consumption. Purchasing RECs at the same quantity as your electricity consumption guarantees that the energy you use is added to the power grid from a renewable energy facility and supports the further development of these facilities. Renewable Choice RECs are third-party certified by Green-e Energy.

“We are proud to be working with a university that is demonstrating its environmental leadership through conservation efforts, energy efficiency projects, and a significant renewable energy commitment,” said Quayle Hodek, CEO of Renewable Choice Energy. “Renewable energy credits play an important role in helping build our country’s clean energy infrastructure and provide developers with more opportunities to develop wind and other renewable energy projects. We are delighted that Adelphi’s commitment to offsetting 100 percent of its electricity continues to be a valuable component of its sustainability strategy.”

Adelphi University’s lush, 75-acre Garden City campus has been recognized with a myriad of honors: Member of EPA’s Green Power Leadership Club, Cool Schools List by the Sierra Club, Excellence in Green Information Technology by Computerworld, winner of the 2008 Regional Commuter Choice Outstanding Achievement Award by The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council and Long Island, and 2009 Clean Air NY Champion, among others.

Adelphi University has a long-standing commitment to green building and implementing sustainability initiatives. In addition to its continued investment in renewable energy, Adelphi made the commitment to “go green” with extensive use of geothermal energy for heating and cooling its new facilities. More than 300,000 square feet of new buildings, including a residence hall completed in 2003, new Centers for Sports and Performing Arts completed in 2008, a renovated Woodruff Hall completed in 2009, and a new residence hall, currently under construction, are all heated and cooled by geothermal systems, making geothermal an integral component of this school’s long term commitment to reduce energy use. Combined, these systems are one of the largest of its kind in the northeast. This system allowed Adelphi University to earn Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified status for the Centers for Sports and Performing Arts, by the U.S. Green Building Council. The new facilities are not only energy efficient but are also constructed with environmentally friendly materials, refuse from construction is recycled, solar gain on roofs and parking areas are reduced, and storm water is returned to aquifers naturally. The University’s housekeeping staff has taken a “green” approach to cleaning throughout the campus by replacing cleaning products containing toxic ingredients with Green Seal certified cleaning products, adopting new cleaning methods that will significantly reduce or eliminate the need for and exposure to strong chemicals, and using products that have a low environmental impact throughout their life cycle.

The University continues to search for and implement new ways to improve energy efficiency and to use products that are beneficial to the school and to the environment. In November 2006, Adelphi began relying 100 percent on natural, organic techniques to maintain the flora around campus. All commercial pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, and petroleum-based fertilizers have been eliminated from Adelphi’s grounds maintenance plan. Adelphi also has an extensive recycling program, where paper, plastic, metal, and cardboard are separated from the normal waste stream for recycling. A separate program for fluorescent lamps, ballasts, batteries, and electronic scrap, guaranties that the mercury and other heavy metals in these items do not wind up in landfills. Lackmann Culinary Services, which oversees the cafeterias on campus and food service for events, transitioned from plastic to paper food containers, and orders from local producers.
